5 steps to follow when you’re feeling anxious

Although I may sound like a complete hypocrite here are some ways that have helped me feel less anxious or things that people have told me to do.

1. Ground yourself

Find:

-5 things you can see

-4 things you can hear

-3 things you touch

-2 things you can smell

-1 thing you can taste

2. Do some deep breathing exercises e.g

Square breathing

Imagine a square in your mind and imagine yourself traveling around it, then as you go up the left side breathe in 1..2..3, as you go across the top hold 1..2..3, As you go down the right side breathe out 1..2..3 and as you go across the bottom pause 1..2..3 repeat this a few times.

3. Mindfulness

Pick up any object

-What does it look like?

-How does it feel?

-What texture is it?

4. Find something to distract yourself or improve you mood

-listening to music

-draw/ colour

-crafts such as crochet or knitting

-watch a film

5.LET IT OUT

Sometimes letting it out is the best thing to do and just remember these feelings will pass and you won’t always feel like this. Talk to someone although it’s hard they may be able to reassure, calm down or at least distract you. If this is too hard then write in a diary.

Creating a positivity box is a useful technique for when you’re struggling. I have one and I’ve decorated the top with quotes and filled it will things that will help me when I feel low. If you want me to do a blog post about it please comment below.

Also would you like me to do a blog post about my favourite outfit / hair / make up.
